Elrich Kicks Off MCDOT’s New ‘Salt-Wise’ Campaign Urging Homeowners to Use Less Salt During Winter Storms to Reduce Environmental Impacts

For Immediate Release: Friday, January 17, 2020

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich was joined by MCDOT Director Chris Conklin, MCDOT Division of Highway Services Chief Richard Dorsey and other officials at the kick off for a new effort to encourage homeowners to use less salt on sidewalks and driveways during winter storms. When overused excess salt ends up in stormwater drains, local streams and eventually, the Chesapeake Bay. The Salt-Wise campaign aims to reduce the impacts of salt use on drinking water. Recent trends show increases in the levels of sodium in the water supply. Read more.
