For Immediate Release: Friday, March 13, 2020
Montgomery County drivers who use the Intercounty Connector (ICC/MD 200) could be affected by temporary weekend road closures March 13-16 as the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) implements its next generation electronic tolling systems. Part of those upgrades, which will continue through early April, will include replacing existing tolling hardware and software at all toll facilities.
Beginning 9 p.m. on Friday, March 13, and continuing until 5 a.m. on Monday, March 16, eastbound traffic on the ICC/MD 200 will be detoured at Georgia Avenue. The detour will direct motorists south on Georgia Avenue to Norbeck Road, then east on Norbeck Road to Layhill Road. They will be then directed south on Layhill back to eastbound ICC/MD 200.
Those traveling between I-370 and I-95/US 1 may consider taking I-495 when detours are in effect.
The temporary detours are needed due to the amount of equipment and work crews involved and to help ensure the safety of workers and motorists.
MDTA plans to have crews working on one gantry in each direction of the ICC per weekend. MDTA will issue additional traffic advisories as work progresses and schedules are finalized. Work will be scheduled during off-peak hours, including weekends and overnight.
