Councilmember Gabe Albornoz will share information about Covid-19 Renter Relief Act, other guests will discuss schools' Continuity of Learning Program, testing sites and community clinics, and Maryland primary election
ROCKVILLE, Md., April 24, 2020—At-Large Councilmember Gabe Albornoz; Melissa Rivera, communications specialist with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS); Jeanett C. Peralta, RN, MSN, nurse manager with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services; and Gilberto Zelaya, vice president of the Montgomery County Board of Elections, will be the featured guests on En Sintonía con El Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council), airing today at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM). Councilmember Albornoz, who chairs the Council’s Health and Human Services Committee, will discuss the Covid-19 Renter Relief Act, which the Council enacted yesterday. This legislation, which was spearheaded by Councilmember Will Jawando and cosponsored by Council President Sidney Katz and Councilmembers Craig Rice and Nancy Navarro, prohibits increasing residential rent beyond current rent guidelines during and for a period of 180 days after the current Maryland declared state of emergency.
Melissa Rivera will discuss MCPS’ Continuity of Learning online program and the importance for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students to remain diligent in their coursework during the period of school closures. Jeanett Peralta will provide information about Covid-19 testing sites and community clinics. Gilberto Zelaya will discuss Maryland’s upcoming 2020 primary election and how it will go forward during the pandemic.
The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station. Lilian Mass is the show’s host.
Each week, the show features guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
