Montgomery County Public Libraries Announces Changes to Its Digital Services

Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) will make changes to its digital services beginning May 1. To enhance digital services, MCPL will launch Hoopla, a web and mobile library media streaming platform to provide cardholders with immediate access to digital movies, music, e-books, audiobooks and television. MCPL will also add The New York Times giving customers electronic access to the full online version including the Learning Network, Lens (photography blog), guides and more.
To better serve County residents, MCPL introduced its own independent Overdrive ebook collection in February. This electronic collection better reflects the interests of County residents and provides a system that is more responsive to their requests and needs. Now that the transition to the Overdrive ebook collection is complete, the cloudLibrary ebook service will be discontinued. Materials owned by MCPL on cloudLibrary will be transferred to the Overdrive ebook platform. CloudLibrary users are encouraged to check out all MCPL’s content on Overdrive and RB Digital ebook services.
“With the temporary closing of our buildings, there has been an increased demand on our digital resources,” said MCPL Director Anita Vassallo. “Eliminating and combining duplicate services will allow us to better leverage our collection dollars.”
All digital services are free and available 24/7 with a library card.
