For Immediate Release: Friday, May 1, 2020
Montgomery County’s Mid-County Regional Office, with the support of local elected officials, is seeking to support restaurants in its area during the COVID-19 health crisis with a weekly initiative of “Mid-County Take-Out Tuesdays” starting on Tuesday, May 5. The initiative consists of elected officials, businesses and community leaders combining to encourage residents to order takeout meals to help Mid-County eateries.
Maryland restaurants have been operating with only carryout and delivery services since dine-in service was banned throughout Maryland by order of Governor Larry Hogan due to the health crisis.
Mid-County Takeout Tuesdays is supporting restaurants that are operating in the many Mid-County communities such as Aspen Hill, Glenmont, Kemp Mill, Kensington, Olney and Wheaton.
Elected officials supporting the Mid-County Take-Out Tuesdays include:
“We are doing everything possible to help all of the businesses in our County that have been drastically impacted by the COVID-19 health crisis and many of our restaurants, especially those that are family operations, have been among the hardest hit during this unique time in history,” said County Executive Erich. “The County Council and I have made financial help available for businesses through the Public Health Emergency Grant program, but we know the best way to help restaurants is for residents to order takeout meals. I have been ordering takeout from restaurants around the County during this time and I hope others join me.”
County Council President Katz said: “I look forward to participating in this effort. It is critically important that we support our restaurant community in every way possible—through financial aid, as well as by ordering meals to take out.”
The Mid-County Regional Office has organized the Takeout Tuesdays initiative along with the Town of Kensington, the Wheaton / Kensington Chamber of Commerce and the Olney Chamber of Commerce.
