MCDOT’s Purple Line Implementation Manager Maricela Cordova Recognized for Outstanding Service

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, May 27, 2020

Every week, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and Chief Administrative Officer Andrew Kleine recognize County employees who are “High Risers” -- those who have risen to the challenge of the COVID-19 health crisis after facing seemingly insurmountable obstacles and transforming them into attainable realities. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is very proud that Purple Line Implementation Manager Maricela Cordova is one of the latest employees to be recognized for providing Spanish translation services to ensure County residents have timely and high quality access to critical emergency information. Although she began these translation contributions for MCDOT information, the County’s Office of Public Information Office quickly recognized the high quality of her work, and Ms. Cordova subsequently stepped up to assist with translating high-quality content for a variety of needs in response to the COVID-19 health crisis.

“I was already proud of the excellent work that Maricela has been doing to lead our coordination with the State’s Purple Line team and collaborate with our many local stakeholders,” said MCDOT Director Chris Conklin. “In addition her significant responsibilities that have continued through our response to COVID-19, Maricela volunteered to translate health crisis information so that our Spanish-speaking residents receive timely emergency updates. We are very grateful to have this hard-working and talented person on MCDOT’s management team who has gone above and beyond to serve the public.”

As the Purple Line Implementation Manager for MCDOT, Cordova provides full oversight of the Purple Line P3 light rail program and associated County-funded projects. She is responsible for the coordination of design and construction activities associated with the Maryland Transit Administration, the State's Concessionaire, other State agencies, project stakeholders, County departments, MCDOT divisions, property owners, real estate developers and the community. Cordova manages the design and technical issues resolution process with County engineering, operations and regulatory departments and agencies. She ensures the facilities under the Purple Line program are constructed by the State and Concessionaire in compliance with all County operational and financial requirements and objectives. Cordova is the County’s main point of contact and represents the County on the Purple Line's four Community Advisory Teams that operate within Montgomery County. She works closely with the public and elected officials on project impacts and briefing the County Executive and County Council.
