Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management Shows How to Create COVID Preparedness Kits

For Immediate Release: Friday, September 18, 2020

As part of National Preparedness Month, Montgomery County's Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security is sharing how the public can assemble recommended items for preparing a COVID Kit and a 14-day Quarantine Kit.

National Preparedness Month is designed to promote family and community-wide disaster planning. As we continue to grapple with this pandemic, emergency managers and public health officials across the country are advising Americans to prepare for a possible second surge in positive COVID-19 cases.

Having a COVID-19 Preparedness Kit could prevent you from becoming sick in the first place and save you time and effort should you start to not feel well. Here are some helpful items to have on hand:

  • Masks (at least two per person
  • Hand Sanitizer (at least 60% alcohol)
  • Medical ID card
  • Sanitizing wipes
  • Soap and water
  • Thermometer

If you suspect you have COVID-19, or receive a positive test, you may need to quarantine for 14 days with little or no notice. Preparing now for that possibility may offer peace of mind should you become affected. Key suggested items include enough food and water for your family for two weeks, over-the-counter and prescription medications, pet supplies and clean masks, gloves and hand sanitizer.
