Rockville, Md., Nov. 7, 2020--The Montgomery County Council made the following statement about Joseph Biden being elected as the 46th U.S. president.

The Montgomery County Council congratulates President-elect Joseph Biden on his projected victory. We enthusiastically await the leadership of President-elect Biden to help our nation and our community contain the COVID-19 virus and put us on the path toward a full economic recovery.

We also congratulate Vice President-elect Kamala Harris who is the first African-American and South Asian-American woman to become vice president. This is a pivotal moment in our nation's history and a reason for great optimism.

As a former councilmember, President-elect Biden knows firsthand that the actions of local government and thriving local communities help to shape the overall success of our nation.
