County to Host Online Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Conversation Wednesday, March 10

Montgomery County residents are invited to an online conversation about suicide prevention and mental health issues impacting our community as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

The session is part of a series, Wellness Community Events: Healing and Holding On—One Conversation at a Time for the Community, which is focused on mental health and wellness issues affecting the community as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. The conversation will be held on Wednesday, March 10 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. 

Tammi Ginsberg and David O’Leary, board members for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) will share their personal experiences with suicide loss and mental illness on how to reach out to someone in crisis and explain why self-care is also an important factor in suicide prevention.

In 2019, 47,511 Americans died by suicide, making suicide the 10th leading cause of death.  However, suicide can be prevented.

The virtual meetings are held every other Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The events are free, open to the public and no registration is required.  Join the conversation on Teams Live at https://bit.ly/wellness-community-7 or view it live on the County Cable Montgomery and the County’s Facebook page.

About the presenters

Tammi Ginsberg is the board president for the AFSP Maryland Chapter and a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCSW) based in Montgomery County. As a suicide loss survivor, Ginsberg knows firsthand how suicide can impact a family and community. She uses this experience to help other suicide loss survivors as well as those who are impacted by mental health issues and their caretakers.

David O’Leary is a board member with the AFSP Massachusetts Chapter and member of the AFSP Chapter Leadership Council. David has been a radio host in the Boston area for 40 years. Losing a relative to suicide and personal experience with depression lead him to volunteer with AFSP where he has been a voice for suicide prevention for more than 20 years.
