Randolph Road Closure Due to Pepco Substation Work Begins Aug. 30

For Immediate Release: Friday, August 27, 2021

Pepco has announced that their contractor, CW & Sons, will begin a six-month construction effort on the westbound lanes of Randolph Road, between Nebel Street and Parklawn Drive beginning this Monday, Aug. 30. The westbound lanes of Randolph Road between Nebel Street and Parklawn Drive will be closed, and westbound traffic will be detoured to Parklawn Drive. Eastbound lanes on Randolph Road will remain open to traffic.

Businesses located along the westbound side of this stretch of road will remain open throughout the construction and will be accessible via the eastbound lanes of Randolph Road. Sidewalks will also remain open to pedestrians throughout the construction.

The work supports the construction of a new substation, which will supply power to the rapidly growing North Bethesda/White Flint area. Substation work started in 2020 and associated line work will be performed with overhead and underground construction along Nebel Street, Marinelli Road, Old Georgetown Road, Citadel Avenue, Randolph Road, and Parklawn Drive. The substation project is expected to be completed by December 2023.

Additional information about this project and other reliability work can be found on Pepco’s project reliability page.
