Montgomery County Seeking Participants for the 2021 Thanksgiving Parade

For Immediate Release: Monday, August 30, 2021

Montgomery County is now accepting applications to be a part of the Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade in Silver Spring. The County is looking for colorful and talented marching bands, artists, dance and gymnastic troupes, floats, sports teams, costumed characters, beauty queens, clowns, classic car clubs, community groups and other organizations to march in the parade.

The Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade will be held in downtown Silver Spring on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021 at 10 a.m. Each year the Parade takes place the Saturday before Thanksgiving and is a wonderful way to kick-off the holiday season. Families in attendance will be able to socially distance themselves, as the parade route continues for a mile. All attendees are encouraged to wear masks to keep the community, our neighbors, and our young people safe.

Applications for units to participate are due on Sept. 27, 2021.  Applications can be found at https://www.silverspringdowntown.com/montgomery-county-thanksgiving-parade.

Volunteering:

Individuals who are interested in participating in the parade (not the marching units) are encouraged to volunteer for the parade. The parade is always looking for volunteers to be elves and pilgrims on floats, reindeer and penguins in the parade, or to lead balloons. The Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade is looking for volunteers, ages 13 and older, to dress up in costume and ride on the floats, to act as unit leaders, and to be balloon handlers. This year the need for adult volunteers is particularly high, as the parade normally has many student volunteers. Volunteer numbers have the potential to be lower due to the pandemic. The hours for volunteers are from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (volunteers need to be present during the entire time) on Saturday, Nov. 20. Volunteer information can also be found at the link above.
