For Immediate Release: Monday, December 6, 2021
To recognize Older Driver Safety Awareness Week (Dec. 6-10), Montgomery County’s Caregiver Support Program, part of the Department of Health and Human Services, has a series of informative videos available on topics related to safe driving. Six speakers address topics such as driving in winter weather; finding the best fit between you and your car; driver rehabilitation; and comfortable alternatives to driving.
Although older drivers tend to be safer than most other age groups: driving sober within posted speed limits, wearing seat belts every trip, and otherwise taking responsibility for the safety of themselves and others, normal aging changes everyone and some of these changes require attention. Having regular vision check-ups, adjusting mirrors carefully, and strategically scheduling trips reflects a commitment to being a safe driver and responsible neighbor.
View the videos, ranging from 11 to 22 minutes, on the Engage@Home YouTube channel. Engage@Home spotlights community resources that benefit family caregivers and other county residents. Episodes feature topical interviews and video content designed to enhance quality of life and personal resilience. More information about older driver safety is available on the County’s senior website.
