Throughout April and May, the Montgomery County Commission for Women will offer eight opportunities to participate in an online evening S.A.F.E. seminar (Self-defense Awareness and Familiarization Exchange) for $10 per participant. This introductory self-defense seminar will assist women of all fitness levels with information that may reduce their risk of exposure to violence and introduce them to the physical aspects of self-defense.


The self-defense seminar will be offered from 7-8:30 p.m., online via Zoom, on the following dates.

  • Tuesday, April 12
  • Tuesday, April 19
  • Tuesday, April 26
  • Thursday, April 28
  • Tuesday, May 10
  • Tuesday, May 17
  • Thursday, May 19


This COVID-19 pandemic adapted S.A.F.E. seminar includes:


  • Videos, discussion, and planning skills for reducing personal safety risks.
  • A 40-minute experience learning a sample of physical self-defense techniques.
  • A 13-piece, full-color student folio with safety information every woman should know (mailed to each participant following the seminar).


Pre-registration is required. Teens may attend only with a participating adult. This session is for women only. The men’s class is not currently being offered by the Commission for Women. If you are interested in the men's class, please call 240-777-8300.
