Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services to Partner with ‘Naturally Bordeaux’ to Offer Master Class on Organic Viticulture and Winemaking on Wednesday, Nov. 9

For Immediate Release: Friday, November 4, 2022

Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) is partnering with the esteemed region of Bordeaux, France, and Adventure Wine to offer a “Naturally Bordeaux Master Class” on organic viticulture and winemaking for its suppliers, ABS employees and license holders. The class will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at ABS headquarters.

ABS headquarters are located at 201 Edison Park Dr. in Gaithersburg.

Winemakers from Chateau Fourcas Hosten, Chateau Jean Faure and Chateau de La Dauphine are coming to Montgomery County from the Bordeaux region of France to discuss their experiences prioritizing sustainability while producing the high-quality wines for which the Bordeaux region is recognized. Robert Cavanaugh, CEO of Adventure Wine and an accredited instructor for Bordeaux, will introduce the discussion and tasting of nine diverse wines.

“We appreciate the carefully crafted art and science that go into each bottle of sustainably produced wine,” said ABS Director Kathie Durbin. “Montgomery County consumers value quality with a conscience, and we are pleased to host these experts visiting from Bordeaux as they share their environmental approach to winemaking and help local tastemakers bring appealing products to County residents.”

The master class serves as a kick-off for expanded educational and marketing opportunities for license holders. The event also will feature senior directors from the Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux and the Ecole du Vin de Bordeaux/Bordeaux Wine School. The event is a testament to the region’s growing interest in quality wine and its production.

“Montgomery County is home to many outstanding restaurants and wine retailers who value the Bordeaux region’s responsible viticulture and dedication to leaving a legacy of healthy vineyards for future generations,” Cavanaugh said.

Spaces at the event are extremely limited. License holders interested in this master class or the follow-up training should email robert@adventurewine.com. The class is not open to the general public.

ABS is the alcohol wholesaler of beer, wine and spirits for Montgomery County and operates 26 retail stores throughout the County. In addition, ABS manages alcohol licensing, enforcement and education for more than 1,000 businesses. Generating more than $35 million in net income annually, its profits are used to pay down County debt with a large portion deposited in the general fund to pay for resident services that would otherwise be funded by County tax dollars. Follow ABS on Facebook and Twitter
