ROCKVILLE, Md., Nov. 10, 2022—The featured guests on this week’s En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council) will include Alejandra Isaia, program director for the Hispanic Business and Training Institute at Montgomery College; Dr. Lindsay Walberg, program specialist at the Career Readiness Education Academy (CREA) for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS); Tania Fuentes-Perez, paraeducator at CREA and Detrice Brown, supervisor for the Working Parents Assistance Program at the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The show will air tomorrow at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM).
The Hispanic Business and Training Institute is a public-private educational entity designed to provide relevant programs, training and courses to the Hispanic community in Montgomery County. Their primary goal is to enhance the economic development of future and established small business owners, provide career development for employees and develop an appreciation of language and culture among related stakeholders. This week’s edition will begin with a discussion of their innovative classes, business seminars, certifications and registration process. The classes are bilingual available in Spanish and English and are available in person as well as virtual.
The show continues with a discussion of CREA, which is a program for older English learners within MCPS. CREA provides opportunities to prepare for the GED exam, earn certifications and learn valuable work skills. To be eligible, students must be at least 18 years old and unlikely to meet all graduation requirements prior to turning 21. The CREA program is offered at both Seneca Valley High School and Thomas Edison High School of Technology.
The show will conclude with a discussion of the Working Parents Assistance Program (WPA). This initiative, which is offered through DHHS, provides financial assistance to eligible Montgomery County residents to cover the cost of childcare education. We will discuss the eligibility requirements, and documents needed. Immigration status is not a requirement for parents or children to participate in the WPA program.
The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express their views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station.
Each week, the show features host Marcela Rodriguez, Council program manager and public information officer, and guests talking about important issues before the Council and provides information about programs offered by the County to help residents.
