The Montgomery County Government, and programs that impact County residents, will have schedule and program changes for Veterans Day Weekend, Friday-Saturday, Nov. 10-11. Veterans Day ceremonies throughout the County will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11. However, the County Government will observe the holiday on Friday, Nov. 10.

  • County offices—Closed on Friday, Nov. 10, and Saturday, Nov. 11.
  • MC 311—Closed on Friday, Nov. 10, and Saturday, Nov. 11.
  • State offices and courts—Closed on Friday, Nov. 10, and Saturday, Nov. 11.
  • State Motor Vehicle Administration offices and Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program stations—Closed Friday, Nov. 10. Open regular hours on Saturday, Nov. 11.
  • Libraries— Closed on Friday, Nov. 10. Branches open regular hours on Nov. 11
  • Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS)—All stores open from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on Nov. 10 and Nov. 11.
  • Department of Permitting Services—All offices, including the customer service lobby, will be closed Nov. 10 and 11.
  • Ride On, Ride On extRaand Flex bus services—Will operate on a Holiday schedule on Friday, Nov. 10. Ride On will operate on a Saturday schedule on Saturday, Nov. 11. Ride On extRa and Flex will not be in service on Saturday, Nov. 11.
  • Ride On Flash-- The Orange Route will operate on a Weekends & Holidays schedule. The Blue Route (typically, weekday only) will not be in service on Friday, Nov. 10. The Orange Route will operate on a Weekends & Holidays schedule on Saturday, Nov. 11. The Blue Route (typically, weekdays only) will not be in service on Saturday.
  • MARC Train—On Friday, Nov. 10, will operate on “R” schedule on all three lines. Penn Line Trains 453 (9:35 p.m. departure from Penn Station) and 452 (10:55. p.m. departure from Washington). There will be no connecting bus service for West Virginia Stations from Brunswick Line Train 875 due to US 340 closure/detour.
  • TRiPS Silver Spring commuter store—Open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10.
  • TRiPS Mobile Commuter Store—Closed on Friday, Nov. 10.
  • Metrobus—Will operate on a Saturday Supplemental schedule on Nov. 10 and Nov. 11. This is a reduced schedule of service compared to a regular weekday schedule, but offers customers some more options beyond a traditional weekend schedule.   • Metrorail—On Friday, Nov. 10, trains will operate on a Saturday schedule, with trains running from 5 a.m. to a time TBD. On Saturday, Nov. 11, trains will run from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. More details at https://www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables/index.cfm
  • Public Parking Garages, Lots, Curbside Meters—Free Nov. 10 and Nov. 11.
  • County-provided trash and recycling collections—No changes in collection schedules.
  • Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center—Entire facility closed on Saturday, Nov. 11.
  • Aquatic Centers— Normal operating hours Nov. 10 and Nov. 11.
  • Community Recreation Centers— Normal operating hours Nov. 10 and Nov. 11.  
  • Senior Centers—Closed Friday, Nov. 10. Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center will be open for normal operating hours Saturday, Nov. 11.

  • Open Parkways schedule: The Open Parkways program will be extended during the Veterans Day holiday weekend. During this time, parkways are open to pedestrians and bicyclists and closed to motor vehicles. This includes Beach Drive between Connecticut and Knowles Avenue (2.9 miles), from 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, through 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12; Sligo Creek Parkway between Old Carroll Avenue and Piney Branch Road and between Forest Glen Road and University Boulevard West from 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, through 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12; Little Falls Parkway between Arlington Road and Dorset Avenue (0.4 miles)—open 24/7 for recreation and exercise.

  • Facilities open during the holiday will include: 
  • Parkstrails, gardens, playgroundsdog parks, skate parksoutdoor exercise stations, and outdoor tennis/pickleball and basketball courts* are open daily, sunrise to sunset. (*Select outdoor courts are available for rental.)  
  • The inline hockey rink at Ridge Road Recreational Park and street hockey/futsal rink at  Dewey Local Park may be permitted or are available first-come, first-served, if not reserved.  
  • Picnic shelters and campfire rings are available for rental at several locations.   
  • Little Bennett Campground.   
  • South Germantown Driving Range. 
  • Brookside Gardens grounds open daily sunrise-sunset. The Visitor Center will be open daily 9 a.m.­–5 p.m. The Conservatory will be open daily 10 a.m.–5 p.m.  
  • Josiah Henson Museum and Park. Friday, Nov. 10, open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, open noon-4 p.m.
  • Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park Museum and Visitor Center. Friday, Nov. 10, and Saturday, Nov. 11, open 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Facilities closed on Friday, Nov. 10: 
  • Montgomery Parks Headquarters and Permits Offices.
  • Montgomery Parks Customer Service Office.
