Montgomery County programs have earned 34 National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Awards for 2023. Since 1970, the NACo Achievement Awards have recognized outstanding county government programs and services.
Through a non-competitive application process, noteworthy programs receive awards in 18 categories covering a wide range of County responsibilities.
"Montgomery County is proud to be recognized with 34 National Association of Counties Achievement Awards for 2023,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “These awards highlight the innovative and effective programs our departments have developed to serve our residents better. From enhancing public safety with our 'Drone as First Responder Program' to promoting sustainability through our 'Single-Family Residential Food Scraps Recycling Pilot,' these achievements reflect our commitment to excellence and continuous improvement. Each award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our County employees who strive every day to make Montgomery County a great place to live, work, and thrive."

Alcohol Beverage Services: “Local Product,” “Automated Physical Inventory” and “Loss Prevention.”

Environmental Protection: “Montgomery County’s Single-Family Residential Food Scraps Recycling Pilot.”
Health and Human Services: “Vias de la Salud Community Health Worker Certification Training Program.”
Housing and Community Affairs: “Countywide Façade Improvement Program.”
Innovation: “Accelerator Program.”

Recreation Department: “55+ Barbeque Bonanza,” “After-School Professional Development.” “Buckets and Beats,” “Centenarian Celebration,” “NFL Flag Football with Referees,” “Rec N Resources,” “Rec Your Way,” “RecFit,” “Senior Outdoor Adventures in Recreation,” “Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center Teen Visioning Event,” “Teen Camps,” “Teen Mental Health First Aid: VIBE Checkup Program” and “Winter Wellness Program.”
Technology and Enterprise Business Solutions: “Augmented Reality” and “Device Client Management—IT Procurement” and “Monty 2.0 Generative AI Chatbot” (partnership with Public Information Office/311).
Transportation: “Maximizing Underutilized Public Parking by Partnering with Long-Term Leases,” “Dedicated Bus Lanes Project” and “Problem Solving Committees” (in partnership with Innovation team).
