Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) will host its annual “Just for the Record–A Vinyl Day,” a celebration of music on vinyl records featuring popular DJs from around the country, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10. The free festival for music enthusiasts will take place at the Brigadier General Charles E. McGee Library at 900 Wayne Ave. in Silver Spring.
“Music connects people across diverse cultures and generations in a special way,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “Events like ‘Vinyl Day’ let us explore the art of music-making, dive into DJ culture, appreciate the timeless magic of vinyl records and gain an understanding of the wonderful offerings available in our County libraries. Come join the music-related activities for all ages at the Silver Spring library on August 10.”
Attendees can participate in workshops on music production, songwriting and album cover painting. They can also purchase vinyl records organized by the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County (FOLMC). Registration is not required. Workshops and activities are first come, first served.
The festival’s keynote event will be a discussion at 2 p.m. with DJ Johnny Juice. His diverse skills as a composer, producer, turntablist, engineer, musician, B-boy, graffiti writer, educator, lecturer and mentor have left an indelible mark on the culture, earning him an Emmy and NAACP Image Award nomination.
