The public is advised that on November 23, several roads in downtown Silver Spring will be closed for a Thanksgiving Parade.

Road closures include the north and southbound lanes of Georgia Avenue between Colesville Road and East-West Highway (Maryland Route 410) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.; east and westbound lanes of Wayne Avenue from Georgia Avenue to Fenton Street from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the westbound lane of Wayne Avenue from Cedar Street to Fenton Street from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the north and southbound lanes of Fenton Street from Wayne Avenue to Colesville Road from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Roeder Road and Ellsworth Avenue east of Fenton Street from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Traffic in Silver Spring will be directed to detours around the parade route along East West Highway to the west or along Fenton Street, Wayne Avenue, and Cedar Street to the east.

The “Thanksgiving Parade: A Salute to Law Enforcement” will begin at 10 a.m. to honor the regional law enforcement agencies involved with the investigation into the shootings that recently terrorized the area. The parade will start on Sligo Avenue between Georgia Avenue and Fenton Street, proceed north on Georgia Avenue, northeast on Wayne Avenue, and north on Fenton Street. An interfaith memorial service will be held prior to the parade at 8:30 a.m. at St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 824 Pershing Drive.

Residents attending the service or the parade are encouraged to take Metro (the Red Line Silver Spring exit) or park free at public garages in downtown Silver Spring.
