Montgomery County to Host Free Student Vaccination Clinics to Help Families Meet Maryland School Immunization Requirements

Clinics Will Be Open During Spring Break, March 30-April 6

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will host free vaccination clinics for students Monday, March 30, through Monday, April 6, during Spring Break to help families ensure children are up to date on required school immunizations.

The clinics are designed to help students meet Maryland’s school vaccination requirements and avoid being excluded from school for missing immunizations. Schools must maintain proof of required vaccines on file for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

All seventh-grade students are required to receive the tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap), and the meningococcal (MCV) vaccine. Parents and guardians should provide updated immunization records to their child’s school health office as soon as possible, either before the end of the current school year or before the start of the next school year.

Free vaccines are available to all Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students, regardless of insurance status, through the County’s Spring Back-to-School immunization campaign. Additional free immunizations include HPV, varicella (chickenpox), measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), meningococcal B, and COVID-19 vaccines.

“Vaccines are one of the simplest and most effective ways we protect our kids and keep our schools healthy,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “We don’t want any student missing class because they couldn’t get an appointment or couldn’t afford a shot. That’s why Montgomery County is offering these clinics during Spring Break in order to make it easy for families to get this done while school is out. I encourage parents and guardians to check their child’s immunization record now and take advantage of these free clinics. When parents stay up to date on vaccinations, they are protecting their own children, classmates, teachers, and the entire community.”

Children ages 18 and younger who are uninsured, enrolled in Medicaid, or American Indian/Alaska Native may also qualify for additional vaccines, such as polio or pneumococcal. Parents and guardians should call one of the clinics listed above for more information.
