Police Investigate Colesville Fatal Collision

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, March 7, 2012

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this afternoon in the Colesville area.

Today, at approximately 3:52 p.m., 4th District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the 800 block of Randolph Road near the intersection of Timberview Court for a report of a collision.

Investigation revealed that a dark blue 2006 Nissan Altima was traveling eastbound on Randolph Road from Kemp Mill Road.  As traffic approached the Nissan from the traffic signal at Kemp Mill Road, the Nissan moved partially into the next traffic lane.  As the Nissan changed lanes, a silver car, entered the same lane.  Contact may have been made between the Nissan and the silver car.  The Nissan then crossed through the next traffic lane and on to the adjacent sidewalk where the vehicle rolled over.  The driver of the Nissan was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The deceased driver has been identified as Nelvis Suyapa Garcia, age 31, of the 12200 block of Centerhill Street in Wheaton.

Detectives believe that the silver vehicle may have been in a speed contest with another vehicle, a green and white Mini Cooper.  Neither the silver car nor the Mini Cooper remained on the scene of the collision.

The circumstances surrounding this fatal collision remain under investigation.    Detectives are asking anyone with information about this collision, the actions of the vehicles prior to the collision, and/or the vehicles involved to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435.
