Police Investigate Shooting Death in Kensington - Crime Solvers Offers $5,000 award

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section are investigating a shooting death that occurred this morning in Kensington.  Detectives are investigating this death as a homicide.

Today, at approximately 9:39 a.m., 2nd District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Knowles Avenue for a report of a shooting.  Upon arriving, officers discovered an adult female deceased in the road way as a result of a gunshot wound.

The victim has been identified as Heather Lynn McGuire, age 36, of Rockville.

The suspect in McGuire’s death has been identified as Philip Joseph Gilberti.  Investigators believe that Gilberti and McGuire were involved in a relationship with each other.

Police have obtained a warrant for Gilberti charging him with first degree murder and are actively searching for him.  Gilberti is 51 years of age, approximately 6’0” tall, and weighing 250 pounds.  He was last seen wearing a red shirt, dark colored jeans, dark boots, and carrying a duffel bag.  Police believe that Gilberti may be on foot and may be carrying a firearm.  Anyone who sees Gilberti is urged to call 911 immediately and not to approach him.
