Silver Spring Domestic Homicide and Arrest

For Immediate Release: Saturday, May 5, 2012

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section are investigating the homicide of a

47-year-old woman in the 8600 block of Garland Avenue in Silver Spring.  The victim has been identified as Ana Ayala of that address.

This morning at 8:15 a.m., officers from the 3rd District and Fire/Rescue units responded to a parking lot in the 8600 block of Garland Avenue for the report of an assault in progress.  Responding units found Ayala in the front passenger seat of a vehicle.  She was suffering from apparent stab wounds.  She was transported to MedStar where she later succumbed to her injuries.

A witness told police that Ayala’s estranged husband, 44-year-old Hector Granados, approached Ayala as she was in the vehicle.  Ayala and Granados had a short conversation and Granados stabbed her and fled.  During the time that police were attempting to locate Granados and take him into custody, he reportedly met a family member and then turned himself in to police at the Piney Branch substation at approximately 12:30 p.m.  He was taken into custody without incident.

Hector Granados of the 8700 block of Barron Street in Silver Spring is being interviewed by detectives.  Charges will be confirmed after he is brought before a District Court Commissioner later this evening.

A photograph of Granados will be available after processing is complete.
