MCP's Dog of the Day - "Brodie"

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, May 9, 2012

Hi!  My name is Brodie, and I work for the Montgomery County Police Department's K9 unit.  I am a German Shepherd, and I was born in the Czech Republic on February 8, 2010.  When I was one year old, I came to the United States where I met my handler and learned how to be a police dog.  My handler is my best friend, and we do everything at work together.

My responsibilities as a K9 are to find people who have committed crimes or items that criminals have left behind during a crime.  I also recently learned to use my nose to located different kinds of drugs.  During the first week after I finished drug school, I found drugs three times!

I like finding drugs, but my favorite part of my job is finding bad people!  As soon as my handler and I get a call over the police radio and the sirens turn on, I get so excited that I can hardly control myself!  I bark and whine as we drive to our next K9 call.

A couple weekends ago, I participated in an event for the United States Police Canine Association.  I was so proud that I ranked in 2nd place for both Obedience and Search out of all the dogs that were part of this event for the first time like me!
