School Resource Officer Russ Larson Receives MC Public School Award

Today, Montgomery County Police Officer III Russ Larson of the 5^th District was awarded the annual MCPS John Queen Award for his excellence in serving the schools in Montgomery County.  Schools Superintendent Dr. Starr presented the award at a breakfast and also speaking in support was Police Chief Tom Manger, along with numerous school Principals, Sheriff Popkin, Rockville City Police Chief Treschuk, Fire Chief Bowers and other dignitaries.

Among the people who authored the award was the security cluster coordinator Bruce Hansen, Northwest High School Principal Dempsey and Poolesville High School Principal Dr. Levine.  Principals Dempsey and Levine provided high praise for the diligence, commitment, passion and integrity brought to the schools by Officer Larson.  Examples were provided of how visible he is, how much he cares for the students and how passionate he is on a daily basis about keeping the schools safe, serving our youth and intervening to help others.  Russ was described as a caring leader who loves to walk the hallways, engage and build relationships with the students, work the sporting events and who is a great fit for assisting with and helping the administrative staffs.

Following this recognition event, several PTA leaders commented about how appropriate and deserving Russ was because of all the good work and positive interaction he has achieved in serving the school community on so many different levels.  Commander Luther Reynolds of the 5^th District stated, “We are fortunate to have such a strong man of integrity dedicated to partnering with the schools, communities, students, detectives and patrol officers, to constantly work towards the safety and well being of our schools.  Russ’s leadership and productivity are impressive and his humility and desire to make a difference are equally impressive.  I appreciate his commitment and passion towards helping others on so many different fronts.  I am constantly receiving praise for the way he handles problems and takes the extra steps to help and assist others who are in need”.
