Fatal Collision on Rockville Pike

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this morning in Rockville.

Today, at approximately 7:35 a.m., officers from the 2nd District responded to the intersection of Rockville Pike and Old Georgetown Road for a report of a personal injury collision.  Upon officers' arrival, both drivers involved in the collision were out of their vehicles and walking around in the area.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a gold 2005 Ford Taurus was slowing for traffic in front of the vehicle when the Taurus was struck from behind by a green 2000 Chrysler Sebring.  While officers were speaking with the drivers, the driver of the Chrysler Sebring began to complain of pain, and an ambulance was requested to transport the driver to the hospital.  In the ambulance on the way to the hospital, the driver lost consciousness, and upon arriving at the hospital, was pronounced deceased.

The deceased driver of the Sebring is being identified as Patricia Greer Parks, age 56, of the 18200 block of Rolling Meadow Way in Olney.  The driver of the Taurus is being identified as Ellen Margaret Girdharry, age 51, of the 500 block of Lincoln Street in Rockville.

The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation.  Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this fatal collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435.  Callers may remain anonymous.
