Police Investigate Hit and Run Collision in Wheaton

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a hit and run collision involving a pedestrian that occurred yesterday in Wheaton.

On May 31, at approximately 4:50 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the intersection of Edwin Street and Centerhill Street for a report of a hit and run collision.  When officers arrived, they located the victim, identified as Malcom Jamar Polk, age 18, of the 3500 block of Edwin Street in Wheaton, lying in the roadway.

Investigation revealed that the striking vehicle, a blue 2007 Nissan Sentra, was traveling northbound on Edwin Street.  The Nissan struck Polk and fled the scene of the collision.  Polk was transported to Suburban hospital with critical injuries.

Through further investigation, detectives located the striking vehicle and identified the driver as Tyree Kenneth Edge, age 18, of the 11900 block of Valleywood Drive in Silver Spring.

The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation.  Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this hit and run collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435.  Callers may remain anonymous.
