Police Investigate Single Vehicle Fatal Collision on Dickerson Road

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred early this morning in Dickerson.

This morning, at approximately 12:48 a.m., 5th District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Dickerson Road (Route 28) and Mount Ephraim Road for a personal injury collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Honda Civic was traveling eastbound in the 22200 block of Dickerson Road.  As the vehicle approached Mount Ephraim Road, the vehicle left the road and struck a stone, railroad bridge overpass.  The vehicle then caught on fire.  Witnesses were able to rescue the front seat passenger from the vehicle.  The Civic then became completely engulfed in flames and witnesses were forced to stop life saving attempts for the female driver.

The driver of the Civic was pronounced deceased on scene of the collision.  The front seat passenger of the vehicle was flown by helicopter to the Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with life-threatening injuries; the passenger remains in serious condition.

The driver’s identity cannot be released at this time as next of kin has not been notified.  The passenger is identified as Oscar Armando Chavez Martinez, age 23, of the 12900 block of Boggy Trail Way in Germantown.

The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation.  Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this fatal collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435.  Callers may remain anonymous.
