Man Arrested for Stabbing in Spencerville Park

Officers from the Montgomery County Police and the Maryland-National Capital Park Police responded to the report of a stabbing that had occurred at Spencerville Park located at 15701 Good Hope Road at approximately 6:00 p.m. this evening.  The victim, a 27-year-old male, was located and transported to a hospital for two stab wounds to the chest area.   The Maryland-National Capital Park Police canine tracked and apprehended a suspect in a creek bed a short time later.  The suspect is identified as Reynaldo Mathis, 33 years old, of the 300 block of E Street SE in Washington, D.C.  The victim and Mathis are known to each other.

This is a joint investigation between the two agencies.  Detectives from the Montgomery County 4th District will be charging Mathis with attempted 1st degree murder and 1st degree assault.  Bond information and a mugshot will be available on Thursday, June 7.
