9th Annual Captain Joseph A. Mattingly Food Pantry Food Drive

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Each year, the Montgomery County Police Department coordinates donations of non-perishable items to the Captain Joseph A. Mattingly Food Pantry.  The food pantry was established to honor the memory of Captain Mattingly who died in the line of duty in a vehicle collision on September 13, 2003.

During this year's food drive, Department members are contributing non-perishable food items or making cash donations to the Food Bank.  Food bins for donations are located at each District station and at Police Headquarters. Residents are also invited to drop food items at any District station close to work or home.  This year's food drive runs through June 24th.  Check the "Police Districts" tab to find a District station near you.

Mid-County United Ministries, who manages and operates the food bank, recently sent a message of thanks to the police department for coordinating this food drive:

"Those of us who were not lucky enough to know Captain Mattingly during his lifetime have learned about his vision.  We have learned that Captain Mattingly understood how taking care of people is at the heart of a community's wellbeing.  He believed that civic life is at its best when it embodies the generosity of the human spirit.  We are grateful that those of you wearing the uniforms of the Montgomery County Police Department are choosing to honor Captain Mattingly by holding and donating to this department food drive.  At Mid-County United Ministries, we know that this act of giving celebrates what Captain Mattingly lived for; the act of helping each other keeps all of us strong.  Thank you for your spirit of service and dedication to the legacy of Captain Mattingly and the residents of Montgomery County."

The Mid-County United Ministries Captain Joseph A. Mattingly Food Pantry is located on the second floor of the Mid-County Regional Services Center at 2424 Reedie Drive in Wheaton.  Donations of non-perishable food are always welcome and can be dropped off from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
