Arrest Made in Commercial Robberies in Bethesda

For Immediate Release: Monday, June 18, 2012

On June 15, at approximately 4:10 a.m., 2nd District officers responded to the Sunoco gas station located at 8240 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda for the report of an armed robbery.  The male suspect entered the store, displayed a handgun, and demanded money from the employee.  The suspect left the gas station on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Later that day, at approximately 2:17 p.m., 2nd District officers responded to the Geste' Wine store located at 4801 Edgemoor Lane in Bethesda for the report of an armed robbery.  Similar to the first robbery, the male suspect entered the store, displayed a handgun, and demanded money from the employee.  The suspect's description, to include clothing worn, was similar in both robberies.

During the investigation of these robberies, detectives located a witness who observed a subject (now identified as the suspect) acting suspiciously at a building next to the Sunoco before the robbery.  The witness provided the subject's license plate number to police.  Detectives identified the suspect as Raymond Adell Sanders, age 23, of the 13400 block of Danielle Court in Brandywine, Maryland.  A search warrant executed by Montgomery County robbery detectives at Sanders’ home revealed evidence from the two robberies to include a handgun believed to be used in the crimes.

On June 16, Montgomery County robbery detectives served Sanders with an arrest warrant charging him with two counts of armed robbery for the Sunoco Gas Station and Geste' Wine robberies.
