Police Investigate 7-Eleven Carjacking Attempt

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division - Robbery Section have been investigating a carjacking attempt that occurred on June 14.

On June 14 at approximately 11:30 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to an attempt carjacking in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven located at 9254 New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring.  The victim related that as he was attempting to enter his vehicle, the suspect approached him, displayed a handgun, and demanded the vehicle's keys.  The victim complied.  When the suspect had difficulty starting the vehicle, the suspect fled on foot.

Prior to the incident, the suspect had entered the 7-Eleven store.  A photograph of the suspect recovered from the 7-Eleven video system is below.  The suspect is described as 5' 8" - 5' 10" tall, weighing between 180 - 200 pounds.  At the time of the crime he was  wearing a red hat, black shirt, and jeans.  He reportedly has a tattoo of lines on his right arm and another tattoo on his neck.
