Montgomery County Police Detectives Investigate Shooting and Multiple Stabbing Incident in Gaithersburg

For Immediate Release: Sunday, June 24, 2012

Montgomery County Police detectives from the 5th/6th District Investigative Section with assistance from Gaithersburg City Police detectives are investigating a shooting and multiple stabbing incident that occurred early this morning during a fight inside and outside of the New Red Rock Café located at 385 Muddy Branch Road in the Festival Shopping Center in Gaithersburg.

At approximately 1:34 a.m. today (June 24, 2012), officers from the Gaithersburg City Police Department and Montgomery County Police Department responded to a call for a fight in progress at the New Red Rock Café.  When officers arrived they found approximately 100 individuals involved in a fight in the parking lot outside of the Café.  Responding and back-up officers were able to bring the situation under control, but witnesses and participants at the scene were uncooperative in providing any suspect information.  At this stage of the investigation there are no identified suspects or suspect descriptions.

At this stage of the investigation it is known that the Red Rock Café had advertised a special Rapper Karaoke Night that attracted a large young adult audience from across the Washington metropolitan area.  It is believed that the fight began between female patrons inside the Café.  Male patrons joined in and the assault escalated to the outside parking lot.  The initial motive for the fight remains under investigation.

One adult male from Washington, D.C. suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Five young adult males received non-life-threatening stab wounds and were transported to area hospitals for treatment.  One young adult female received lacerations and transported herself to a medical center for treatment, and one male of unconfirmed age was punched with a blunt object and did not require transport.  Other individuals with minor injuries refused treatment by responding Fire and Rescue Service personnel.

Anyone with information about the suspects involved in this shooting and stabbings incident is asked to call the 5th/6th District Investigative Section at 240-773-6237.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
