Third District Officers Investigate a Female Pedestrian Struck in Silver Spring

For Immediate Release: Sunday, June 24, 2012

Montgomery County Police 3rd District Officers are investigating a collision between an adult female pedestrian and a tractor trailer truck that occurred this evening, (June 24, 2012), shortly before 6:00 p.m., at the intersection of  Georgia Avenue and Colesville Road in Silver Spring.

The investigation revealed that the pedestrian was crossing southbound Georgia Avenue against a “Don’t Walk” sign.  The tractor trailer, which had a green traffic signal arrow, was making a left turn from southbound Colesville Road onto southbound Georgia Avenue.  The pedestrian had paused at the median strip on Georgia Avenue, but for unknown reasons, continued walking and was struck by two of the four double rear wheels of the tractor trailer.  The impact knocked the victim to the ground and the collision severely injured her legs.  The driver felt the impact and immediately stopped his vehicle, which prevented further serious injury to the victim.  The driver, identified as Jose Antonio Arguelles, age 45, from the 200 block NW 87th Avenue in Miami, Florida, remained at the scene of the collision and was determined not to be at fault.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was transported to MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. for treatment of her serious injuries.
