Update to Van and Motorcycle Crash in Germantown

For Immediate Release: Monday, June 25, 2012

Montgomery County Police 5th District officers have been investigating a crash involving a van and a motorcycle that occurred on Sunday, June 24, at approximately 4:17 p.m. in the 21000 block of Frederick Road near the entrance to the Milestone Shopping Center in Germantown.

The investigation revealed that a 2000 Chevrolet Astro van driven by Kenneth Elwood Lawson, age 76, of the 3400 block of Augusta Drive in Ijamsville, was traveling northbound on Frederick Road and making a left turn into the Milestone Shopping Center.  At the same time, Patrick Delvin Dzikowski, age 23, of the 13100 block of Camellia Drive in Silver Spring, was operating his 2004 Suzuki motorcycle southbound on Frederick Road.  The van failed to yield the right of way and pulled in front of the motorcycle which caused the motorcycle to collide with the side of the van.

The impact of the motorcycle, which witnesses indicated was traveling at a high rate of speed, caused the van to overturn.  The driver and all four adult occupants (two women and two men) of the van were transported for treatment.  The operator of the motorcycle was ejected from his motorcycle and transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.  Everyone sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Frederick Road between Henderson Corner Road and the entrance to the Milestone Shopping Center was shut down for several hours last night during the crash investigation.
