Update on Female Pedestrian Struck by Tractor Trailer in Silver Spring

For Immediate Release: Monday, June 25, 2012

Montgomery County Police 3rd District officers have been investigating a collision involving a female pedestrian who was struck on Sunday, June 24, at approximately 5:45 p.m., at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Colesville Road in Silver Spring.

The investigation revealed that the victim, Denise Eidem, age 66, of the 100 block of Q Street NE Washington D.C., was standing on the median strip while the pedestrian traffic signal was displaying a red hand to indicate that it was not appropriate to cross.  A tractor trailer truck, driven by Jose Antonio Arguelles, age 45, of the 200 block of NW 87th Avenue in Miami, Florida, was legally making a left turn from Colesville Road to southbound Georgia Avenue on a green left turn arrow.  For unknown reasons, Ms. Eidem stepped into the road while the trailer was completing its turn.  The rear wheels (fourth axle) of the trailer struck Ms. Eidem.

She was transported to MedStar Washington Hospital Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
