Man Charged in Silver Spring Stabbing Death

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, July 4, 2012

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division-Homicide/Sex Section are continuing to investigate the stabbing death of a 35-year-old man.

On Tuesday, July 3, at approximately 2:29 p.m., 3rd District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the call for a stabbing that had just occurred in an apartment at 8060 13th Street in Silver Spring.  Upon arrival they found  Thomas Harvey suffering from apparent stab wounds.  Multiple witnesses reported seeing the suspect, Hugo Rodriguez, fleeing the scene still armed with a knife.  A lookout was placed and officers stopped Rodriguez nearby on foot.  The knife was recovered in a storm drain a short distance away from where Rodriguez was detained.  Harvey, from an unconfirmed address, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives have learned that Harvey and Rodriguez were known to each other.  They became involved in a dispute that escalated into a physical altercation where they both were armed with knives.  This resulted in Rodriguez stabbing Harvey with a knife.  Additional details regarding this investigation cannot be released at this time.

Hugo Rodriguez, 38 years old, of the 400 block of South Hampton Drive in Silver Spring has been charged with 1st degree murder.  He is being held without bond and is scheduled for bond review on Thursday, July 5 at 1:00 p.m. in Rockville.
