Fatal Motorcycle Collision Investigated

For Immediate Release: Monday, August 13, 2012

Investigators with the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision involving a motorcycle (M/C) that occurred last night.

On Sunday, August 12, at approximately 8:40 p.m., officers from the 6th District, Gaithersburg police, and Fire-Rescue units responded to Great Seneca Highway and High Gables Drive for a report of a serious collision.  Responding units determined that a M/C operator had been involved in a serious personal injury collision.  The operator of the M/C was transported to Suburban Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Further investigation by CRU detectives revealed that the 41-year-old M/C operator was northbound on Great Seneca Highway near High Gables Drive.  He was operating a 2009 Ducati M/C.  For reasons still under investigation, the M/C struck a right hand curb and separated the operator from the M/C.  The operator became injured when he struck a light pole on the right hand side of the road.

The operator of the M/C has been identified as Saharath Rochanavichit of the 13500 block of Oriental Street in Rockville.

Anyone who witnessed this collision is asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301.840.2435
