Police Ask For Help in Identifying Theft from Auto Suspect - Remind Residents to Lock Vehicle Doors

On July 25, police responded to a residence in the 4300 block of Prince Road in Rockville for the report of theft from auto.  Between the hours of 11:30 p.m. on July 24 and 7:00 a.m. on July 25, an unknown suspect(s) rummaged through two unlocked vehicles at the residence and stole cash.

On the same day, police responded to a residence in the 4400 block of Oak Hill Road in Rockville (approximately .7 miles from the first location) for the report of theft from auto.   An unknown suspect had stolen jewelry from an unlocked vehicle during the night hours.

During investigation by 4th District Property Crimes Detectives, a person who lives in the same block as the first victim (4300 block of Prince Road) realized that their home security camera had captured the suspect on video.  In the video, the suspect is attempting to open this resident's vehicle doors, but is unsuccessful (presumably because the vehicle is locked).  The suspect then enters the unlocked garage and searches the interior of the garage using a flashlight.  The suspect leaves without any items.

Detectives are asking anyone who recognizes this male suspect captured on home video surveillance to please call the 4th District Petty Crime Unit at 240-773-5476.  Callers may remain anonymous.

Montgomery County Police continue to remind people to lock their vehicle doors and garages to prevent theft.
