Detectives Investigate and Arrest Suspect in Silver Spring Stabbing

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, September 4, 2012

On September 2 at approximately 6:15 a.m., Silver Spring officers responded to the 1000 block of Ruatan Street in Silver Spring for the report of a stabbing.  Officers located the 41-year-old victim suffering from stab wounds to his upper body.  The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The victim remains in stable condition at the hospital.

Investigation by detectives determined that the 41-year-old victim met the suspect at the Cococabana Bar And Grill located at 2031-A University Boulevard in Hyattsville.  Outside of the club, the suspect approached the victim.  Unbeknownst to the suspect, the male victim was posing as a female.  During conversation, the victim agreed to engage in a sex act at the victim's residence in the 1000 block of Ruatan Street in Silver Spring for an exchange of money.  The suspect drove the victim to the victim's home and the two engaged in a sex act.  The suspect and victim then went outside to smoke cigarettes and while the victim was turned away from the suspect, the suspect began to stab the victim several times in the upper body with a folding knife.  The suspect then fled in an unknown direction.

At approximately 3:15 p.m. that same  day, the suspect returned to the victim's residence and stated to other occupants that he was there to apologize for stabbing the victim.  The police were then called to the scene.  The suspect repeated his admission to responding officers and later to detectives.  The suspect told detectives that he stabbed the victim after realizing that the victim was a man posing as a woman.

The suspect, who has been identified as Christian Ariel Romero, age 20, of the 1800 block of Avalon Place in Hyattsville, was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with attempt first degree murder, attempt second degree murder, first degree assault, second degree assault, reckless endangerment and theft under $1,000.  Romero has bond review today at 1:00 p.m.
