Detectives Continue to Investigate Armed Robbery of Business-Release Video of Suspect

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Detectives from the Major Crimes Division - Robbery Section continue to investigate an armed robbery of a business that occurred on August 19.  Today, detectives are releasing video they obtained of one of the suspects and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

On August 19 at approximately 4:47 p.m., Silver Spring officers responded to the Public Storage facility located at 10717 Hillwood Drive in Silver Spring for the report of an armed robbery that had just occurred.  Investigation by officers revealed that two black male suspects entered the business and posed as customers.  As an employee was gathering storage rental information for the suspects, one of the suspects rushed behind the front counter.  This suspect brandished a knife, demanded money, and pulled the telephone cord from the wall.  After both suspects obtained money from the business and personal property (to include a wallet) from the victim, they bound the employee’s feet and hands.  The suspects fled from the store and the employee was able to free himself and call police.

Suspect one is described as a black male, approximately 25 to 30 years old, 5’05” – 5’06” tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds, with short black hair.  Suspect two is described as a black male, approximately 25 to 30 years old, 5’06” – 5’08” tall, weighing approximately 150 to 160 pounds, with short black hair.

Detectives have obtained video surveillance of one of the suspects attempting to use the employee’s credit card at an ATM and are asking for the public’s help in identifying this suspect. In the video surveillance the suspect is wearing a New Jersey Devils hat.

Detectives are aware of an armed robbery that occurred earlier that day at a Public Storage Facility located in Laurel and have been coordinating with Prince George’s County detectives.  At this time it is believed these two robberies were committed by the same two suspects.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have information about these armed robberies or the suspects involved to call the Robbery Section at 240-773-5100.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or enter a tip online. Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this felony crime.
