Detectives Investigate Attempt Kidnapping

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police-Family Crimes Division are asking for the public’s assistance in helping to identify the suspect in an attempt kidnapping that occurred today at the McDonald's located at 8407 Colesville Road in Silver Spring.

Today, at approximately 1:30 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the McDonald's for the report of an attempt kidnapping. The investigation revealed that the 13-year-old male victim was waiting at the counter when the suspect entered the restaurant, grabbed the victim from behind, and attempted to drag him outside. During the struggle, the suspect identified himself as the police and told the victim he was under arrest. A security guard at the McDonald's intervened, and the suspect released the victim. The suspect was last seen walking towards the Metro station.

Detectives are releasing surveillance images of the suspect who is described as a heavy set black male in his mid-50s with short balding hair and a beard.

Detectives are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect from the photographs to contact the Family Crimes Division at 240-773-5400.  Callers may remain anonymous.
