For Immediate Release: Friday, October 5, 2012

On Saturday, September 29 at approximately 8:50pm, Montgomery County Police received a call for an attempted robbery and assault that occurred in downtown Bethesda on the Capital Crescent Trail. The victims, two 16-year-old males from Bethesda, and another juvenile were walking on the trail when they were approached by a group of approximately five to six teenage males.  The male suspect grabbed one of the victims and demanded money.  The other victim attempted to intervene and was punched in the head and face by the suspect. The other teens separated the two males and the suspect’s group left the area. No money was obtained.  The victims returned home and the victim who sustained injuries was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

During the investigation, detectives from the Bethesda Investigative Section received a tip from the community about a possible suspect.  On October 4, detectives arrested and charged a 16-year-old male from Rockville with the attempted robbery and 2nd degree assault of the two juvenile victims.
