Update: Names Released in October 7 Fatal Collision in Derwood

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continue to investigate a fatal collision that occurred on October 7 in Derwood.  Today, detectives are releasing the names of those people involved in the collision.

On October 7 at approximately 10:29 a.m., officers from the 6th District and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to Airpark Road, approximately 1/2 mile north of Muncaster Road, for a report of a three-vehicle personal injury collision. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the driver of a silver 2000 Mazda 626 was northbound on Airpark Road and was attempting to negotiate a curve.  For reasons that remain under investigation, the Mazda crossed into the southbound lanes striking a white 2010 Lexus RX350 and a dark gray 2012 Acura TL.

The 53-year-old male front seat passenger of the Mazda died on the scene of the collision.  He is identified as Larry Uwem Etuk Navajo of the 10700 block of Venetia Mill Circle in Silver Spring.  The 48-year-old male driver of the Mazda, identified as Chimezie Darlington Onwuachu of the 10700 block of Venetia Mill Circle in Silver Spring, was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with serious injuries.  The 53-year-old male driver of the Acura, identified as Robert Dike of the 19800 block of Falling Spring Court in Laytonsville,  was also transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with serious injuries.  The 59-year-old female driver of the Lexus is identified as Claudia Horn of the 86oo block of Augusta Farm Lane in Laytonsville.  She was not injured.

The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation.  Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this fatal collision and have not spoken to detectives to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773- 6620.  (Please note new phone number).  Callers may remain anonymous.
