October 12 Collision Now Fatal

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a collision that occurred on October 12 on Laytonsville Road (Route 108) at Brink Road in Laytonsville.  The driver of one of the involved vehicles died at a local hospital on October 20 .

On October 12 at approximately 3:44 p.m., officers from the 5th District responded to the intersection of Route 108 and Brink Road for the report of a personal injury collision.

Preliminary investigation indicates that three vehicles were traveling eastbound on Route 108.  The driver of a 2005 Acura RL, who was stopped in traffic, was rear-ended by a 2000 Kia Sophia.  A 2003 Mazda Miata traveling directly behind the Kia then rear-ended the Kia.  The driver of the Kia was transported to the hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.  On October 20, the driver of the Kia died at a local hospital.

The driver of the Acura is identified as David Greene, age 49, of the 8100 block of Jonnie Court in Gaithersburg.  The driver of the Mazda is identified as Cynthia Bonnette, age 46, of the 5400 block of N Four Mile Run Drive in Arlington, Virginia.  The deceased driver of the Kia is identified as Geneva Kelley, age 84, of the 500 block of Woodston Road in Rockville.

The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation.  Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this fatal collision and have not spoken to detectives to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773- 6620.  (Please note new phone number).  Callers may remain anonymous.
