Detectives Seek Assistance in Identifying Carjacking Suspect

For Immediate Release: Thursday, November 1, 2012

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division - Robbery Section are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a suspect believed to be responsible for a carjacking that occurred on September 27 in Rockville.

On September 27, at approximately 9:57 p.m., 1st District and Rockville City officers responded to the parking lot of Congressional Plaza located at 110 Congressional Lane for a report of a carjacking.  Investigation revealed that the 69-year-old victim parked her vehicle (a 2012 Toyota Prius) in the parking lot and exited the vehicle.  She made a transaction at the Wells Fargo Bank ATM and was returning to her vehicle when she observed a male suspect sitting in the driver's seat.  The victim approached her vehicle and attempted to open the driver's side door.  At this point, the suspect stated that he had a gun, pushed the keyless start button on the vehicle, and drove away in an unknown direction.  The victim's purse, cell phone, and checkbook were left in the vehicle.

Following the carjacking, the victim's checks were used in Charles County and Prince George's County to purchase prepaid credit cards.  The credit cards were then used to make purchases at various establishments in Prince George's County.  Detectives were able to obtain surveillance video of the suspect using the credit cards.

On October 11, a robbery occurred at the Dunkin Donuts store located at 4653 Duke Street in Alexandria, VA.  Detectives obtained surveillance video from this robbery and believe that the suspect involved is the same suspect responsible for the carjacking in Rockville.  Following this robbery, the stolen Toyota was located and recovered in Montgomery County on October 13.

Today, Montgomery County robbery detectives are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the suspect that is seen on the Dunkin Donuts robbery video.  The video was obtained by the Alexandria Police Department and released on their YouTube channel on October 12.  Anyone who may have information about the identity of the suspect involved is asked to contact the Major Crimes Division – Robbery Section at 240-773-5100.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or leave a Crime Solvers tip here.  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this felony crime.
