MCPD Hosts Annual NCR SWAT Competition

For Immediate Release: Thursday, November 8, 2012

On Friday, November 2, Montgomery County Police hosted the 6th Annual National Capital Region SWAT Association (NCRSA) competition. Eight teams from around the region participated.  More teams were scheduled to compete but were pulled away to assist with post-Hurricane Sandy duties.

The competition began with an obstacle course featuring 15 obstacles.  The obstacle course was followed by four shooting events which tested team tactics, shooting abilities, and speed. Teams were scored based on completion of each event, time, and shooting accuracy.

This year, U.S. Capitol Police won 1st place overall, and two MCP teams placed 2nd and 3rd.  MCP is especially proud of this result as the Department’s centralized SWAT team was unable to participate as they acted as hosts for the event.  Instead, several of the Department’s decentralized SWAT members participated and performed very well throughout the competition.

Congratulations to all the participants!
