Man Arrested for Discharging Firearm

For Immediate Release: Monday, November 19, 2012

At approximately 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, November 18, 6th district officers responded to the area of Washington Grove Lane for a complaint of the sound of shots.  When officers arrived, they encountered a 38-year-old Washington Grove resident who admitted to officers that he had discharged his AK-47 in his backyard.

Detectives from the Firearms Investigations Unit responded to the scene and recovered an AK-47,  a 12 gauge shot gun, and two handguns from the suspect's home.  One handgun was loaded.

The suspect, identified as Kenneth Wayne Barney Jr., was taken into custody and was charged with discharging a firearm in an urban area and reckless endangerment.  He is being held on $20,000 bond and is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m.  bond review today in Rockville.
