Detectives Seek Assistance in Identifying Robbery Suspect

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Detectives from the 4th District Investigative Section are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a suspect involved in an armed robbery that occurred in the Leisure World shopping center.

On November 21, at approximately 8:42 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the Aspen Hill Shopping Center for a report of an armed robbery.  Investigation revealed that the 20-year-old male victim had been sitting in his vehicle in the Leisure World shopping center when he was approached by the suspect.  The suspect initially asked the victim for directions to the Glenmont Metro Station but then produced a black handgun and entered the victim's vehicle.  The suspect forced the victim to drive to several ATM's in the Aspen Hill area in an attempt to withdraw money.

After unsuccessful attempts to withdraw money from several banks, the suspect had the victim park in the Aspen Hill shopping center parking lot.  The suspect then took the victim's credit card, iPhone, and vehicle keys and fled.  The victim summoned police assistance.

The suspect involved in this incident is described as a black male, approximately 20 years old, 5-10", and weighing approximately 200 pounds.  He was wearing a black Northface windbreaker with a hood, dark blue jeans, and a skull cap.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect used the victim's credit card at the CVS store located at 12209 Veirs Mill Road.  Detectives obtained surveillance videos from the store and today are releasing these videos.  The suspect is seen in the videos with his face still masked as he enters the store and makes his transaction at the cash register.

Anyone who may have information about this robbery or the suspect involved is asked to contact the 4th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5530.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or leave a Crime Solvers tip here.  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest and/or indictment for this felony crime.
