Detectives Investigate Series of Residential Burglaries Along University Boulevard

For Immediate Release: Thursday, November 29, 2012

Detectives from the 3rd District Investigative Section are investigating a series of daytime residential burglaries that has been occurring along University Boulevard between the 495 Beltway and Piney Branch Road.

Since November 19, nine burglaries have been reported at the following locations:

  • unit block of Lauer Terrace
  • 200 block of Melbourne Avenue (2 incidents)
  • 9200 block of Mintwood Street
  • 9500 block of Saybrooke Avenue
  • 9300 block of Weaver Street
  • 9200 block of Daleview Court
  • 9500 block of Evergreen Street
  • 8900 block of Whitney Street
Detectives believe that the above burglaries may have been committed by the same suspect as all the incidents have occurred in the daytime, the suspect(s) entered through rear or side entrances (doors and windows) of the residences, and similar items have been stolen in each incident.

Through investigation, detectives have determined that there are possibly 3-4 suspects responsible for these burglaries.  The suspects are described as Hispanic males in their late teens or early 20's.  The suspects are believed to be driving a dark blue, black, or gray 4-door older model sedan with dark-colored rims and dark tinted windows.  The vehicle may have Virginia registration plates.

Detectives have determined that in several instances, the suspect(s) and their vehicle have been observed in and around the area of the burglary by residents; however, the police were not contacted.  Police are urging all residents in this area to be alert to any type of suspicious subjects or activity and to immediately call 9-1-1 to report such activity.
